One of my favorite things about calligraphy? It’s nearly impossible to date.
If I showed you this invitation suite without context, would you know if it was designed five years ago or five months ago?
Probably not.
While invitation trends evolve, color palettes shift, die cuts come and go, and graphic styles have their moment, don’t even get me started on fonts, beautiful calligraphy has remained relevant for centuries. It feels just as at home on a classic wedding invitation today as it did generations ago.
That’s not to say we don’t love a trend. We absolutely do. Some of our favorite suites blend timeless calligraphy with modern colors, unexpected materials, and fresh design details. Some of our favorite suites have NO calligraphy at all!
But when the trends eventually change, the calligraphy still feels right at home.

The truth - I thought taking a “distance learning” course (before online courses were available) would be easy. Turn in homework once a week, midterm and a final on campus. Welp. I drove home every week, sat at my dad’s kitchen table, and cried while he tried to explain this foreign language to me ; and he just ended up doing the homework for me😂😂. I (we) got a 100 on every piece of homework. We failed the midterm and likely the final too. WE pulled a C in the class 😂

When @kaitlyn_boone reached out, we asked her to describe her wedding aesthetic. Her words - “Formal, coastal, vintage, magical, memorable.” And she said she wanted full spot calligraphy for her main invitation. My little heart was so excited.
The letterpress, giving a tactile impression on the cotton cardstock was a nod to their black tie affair; with a more formal style of calligraphy. We pulled in a seahorse wax seal and Florida vintage postage; a seashell die cut rehearsal dinner card; and a custom watercolor liner of the iconic fountains at their venue.

I don’t have anything profound to share. Just that we are sisters. We love a good floral printed dress. Townley has always been about an inch or two taller than me. This was on a Tuesday afternoon at an industry event; brushing our hair and throwing on heels as we were running out the door. Stopping at our printer on the way to the event; and emailing planners across the room during the event; and then immediately back to the studio because it’s our busy season 🤍

In a few weeks we will be in Alaska! We are taking a rescheduled trip - one that was originally schedule for May, 2020, for our dad’s 70th birthday (thanks covid). Welp. He’s 76 now. 😂🫣. We are finally doing it. We shall see how the boat’s WiFi is; but excited to take a break after our spring wedding season slows into our summer events.

I feel like during spring wedding season, we turn into weather ladies! How humid is it outside? Escort cards, table numbers - anything with single ply cardstock - eeeek it makes me nervous once we get in July with the Tennessee heat and humidity - but May? It’s usually a toss up. Here to say we have had the BEST WEATHER so far this spring!
